An offshore licence is required to navigate a motor boat more than 6 miles from a shelter, day or night, with no power limitation.
The minimum age required is 16 years.
You must first obtain your coastal licence to access this training, which is just a theoretical examination.

The duration of the training is estimated between 30 and 30 hours.
Theoretical exam in Strasbourg
The offshore extension takes the form of a theoretical examination of 1h30:
- Two 12-point card exercises
- One tide exercise 4 points
- Five MCQ questions over 4 points
You will need to get a 10/20 at the exam, with a minimum of 7/12 for card exercises.
The candidate will use the 9999 card which will be retained by the Instructor Service.
